The success of GPI is a direct reflection of the team. With over 40 staff in Japan, combined with Pattern Development, we form a team of over 300 scientists, developers, lawyers, financiers, engineers, and construction managers that is deeply dedicated to developing high-performance renewable energy and transmission projects.
The GPI Management team has decades of experience working together at various institutions in Japan as well as in North America and Europe.
Toshio Hori is the Founder,Honorable Chairman of GPI. Mr. Hori founded GPI in 2004. He was formerly Chairman of Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation, and from 1997 to 2002 the CEO of the Power and Utilities Project Division of Tomen Corporation, acquired by Toyota Tsusho in 2006.
Mitsuru Sakaki is the President and Representative Director of GPI. He joined GPI in 2008 and was made a Vice President in 2017. Mr. Sakaki has worked for Tomen Corporation on numerous power projects in the US, and was also the president of Japan wind developer for Eurus Energy America.
Mark Anderson is the Executive Vice President for GPI. Prior to this, Mr. Anderson worked for more than 11 years with Eurus Energy America Corporation, acting as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and ultimately Chief Executive Officer. At Eurus he oversaw the development, ownership and operation of more than 500 MW of wind and solar power generation assets in North and South America. Prior to Eurus, Mr. Anderson worked in investment banking in Malaysia, Hong Kong and Tokyo, where he advised on energy and infrastructure related project finance, privatization, and M&A transactions. Previous to his tenure in investment banking, Mr. Anderson worked for Tomen Corporation and was based in Tokyo.
Shoichi Yoshizaki is the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Executive Director at GPI, a position he has held since 2007. In 2003, Mr. Yoshizaki was the general manager of Finance at Japanese wind developer Eurus Energy Holdings. Stationed to assignments in New York and London while working for Tomen Corporation, he later moved to be general manager of the Finance Department.
Nobundo Koumura is a Senior Executive Director at GPI. In 2002 he founded startup development company Winnex Corporation, which merged with GPI when he founded GPI with Mr. Toshio Hori in 2004. Mr. Koumura oversaw the development, construction and operation of more than 900MW of wind and solar power generation projects to date. He previously worked on a multitude of wind power projects for Tomen Corporation from 1994-2001 in San Diego.
Masaaki Matsuoka joined GPI in 2006 and has been an Executive Director since 2017. From 2003 to 2006 he worked in the London office of Japanese wind developer Eurus Energy Holdings. From 1992-2003 Mr. Matsuoka was stationed in Spain and London developing wind projects for Tomen Corporation.
Yoshi Mitsuhashi is an Executive Director at GPI. In 2008 he joined GPI as the head of the Netherlands office to develop projects across Europe, and in 2015 returned to Tokyo to develop projects in Japan. Previous to 2008, Mr. Mitsuhashi was Vice President of Japanese wind developer Eurus Energy America in San Diego. Prior to Eurus he was stationed in New York and San Diego where he developed wind projects for Tomen Corporation.
Kengo Okamoto is the Head of Legal at GPI. Prior to this, Mr. Okamoto worked for The Royal Bank of Scotland plc as the Head of Legal Japan & Managing Director for banking & securities businesses from 2007 to 2015. He has also worked for the Swiss Bank Corporation (currently UBS) in Japan, Crédit Lyonnais (currently Crédit Agricole) as the Country General Counsel in Japan, and JPMorgan as Assistant General Counsel & Executive Director. Previous to those positions, he was also stationed to assignments in Osaka, New York and Tokyo while working for Tomen Corporation until 1994.
Daniel Runyan is the Director of Business Development at Pattern Development, Japan. He is responsible for the successful delivery of Pattern Development’s renewable energy project deal flow, with day-to-day direction of project permitting, real estate, landowner discussions, community involvement and revenue generation. Mr. Runyan has led the development and financing of over 1,000 MW of combined renewable power while working at BP Wind Energy North America, Power Costs Inc., and Duke Energy North America.
